Kampong Glam Stewardship Initiative

What might long-term stewardship of a living heritage district look like?

One real-world.
Both looking forward.

The question

How might a community understand and care for a heritage district over the long term — across buildings, livelihoods, culture and ownership?

The Kampong Glam Stewardship Initiative is research and strategy work exploring that question. It is not a launched fund or investment vehicle.

What was researched

The district’s history, conserved shophouses, property economics and values, ownership context, and possible long-term stewardship mechanisms.

These layers help frame questions. They do not, on their own, settle legal ownership, property valuation, financing or community consent.

What AI helped with

AI-assisted research supports organising material, comparing ideas and exploring how evidence might inform a stewardship strategy. The work still depends on source checking and human judgment.

What remains uncertain

Any future mechanism would require further evidence, legal and financial review, and participation from the people concerned. This project page presents the inquiry, not a proposal ready to launch.
